Types of CPAP Masks

Continuous positive airway pressure or CPAP masks treat a variety of sleeping disorders. Patients with prescribed Cpap masks as part of their therapy should be aware of the many varieties these masks have on the market. It is very important for each one of them to have a comfortable mask, which will not only help them in their sleep but will be good and suitable element of the whole sleeping process. Even “the best” CPAP system is no good if the user has to stop wearing it due to discomfort or a poor fit.

The main types of CPAP masks are the nasal ones. There are also oral masks, fullface masks and pillow systems. Important thing when choosing a CPAP mask for yourself is how comfortable it is throughout the night without disturbing your sleep, that it should provide a secure leak seal. Smaller ones are more secured than the larger ones in general.

The full-face type is the most popular one of CPAP mask. The full-face works for both nasal and oral breathers, providing a good stream of air to keep the airway open. The mask has different shapes, but the way it is created is to cover your mouth and nose. It has several straps, which are made to make the CPAP mask fit and stay attached to your head during the sleeping process.

Oral CPAP masks provide constant air flow to people who breathe primarily through their mouth while sleeping. They should fit the mouth and be sealed good in order to provide the constant air flow.

The nasal type are a great option for people who breathe primarily through their nose. Smaller and lighter than a full-face, nasal masks can be a good option for people who find full-face masks uncomfortable to their sleep. The main advantages of a nasal mask over full-face masks the easy use, how comfortable they are and easy to maintain.

Mask pillow systems are the lightest and the most quiet of all CPAP systems. Pillow systems seal directly again each nostril rather than through a mask that covers all or part of the face.

There are also good options for side sleepers. More infor on cpap masks for side sleepers can be found in our previous post.

In addition to choosing the right mask, CPAP users should be aware that a variety of accessories is available to help ensure a good night’s sleep. Longer tubes, memory foam pillows, lotions, and other products can help the patient get a peaceful night’s sleep. The most important thing is that each patient should be very responsible and pay attention to his/her sleeping problems in time. CPAP masks and accessories are a good choice and may solve many problems.
